League Notes

In Boston, Gary Washburn noted there are "no plans" for the city to host an NBA All-Star Game although the game "has not been held in Boston in 53 years." The NBA has been seeking cities to host the game -- it is returning to L.A. in '18 after a seven-year absence -- but Celtics President Rich Gotham said that Boston "has not applied." Washburn: "The question is why." Gotham said, "I wouldn’t say no interest at all. I would just say as far as the priorities for the organization go, it just hasn’t risen to the top" (BOSTON GLOBE, 3/28).

GOOD NEWS, BAD NEWS: The AP's Jenna Fryer noted TV ratings for Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Auto Club Speedway on Sunday "were down." Ratings also "were down for Phoenix, Las Vegas and Atlanta." Basically, "nothing NASCAR does can stop this slide, it seems." The "good news" is that NASCAR really "couldn't have asked for a better start to its season." Five drivers won the first five races, with the lead changing "in the waning laps each time" (AP, 3/27).

ASK FOR FORGIVENESS: In N.Y., Billy Witz noted Mets P Jeurys Familia met with MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred on Monday afternoon at the league's HQ, "making a personal plea for leniency under baseball’s domestic violence policy." A source said that Familia is "expected to be suspended this week." The source added that the punishment was "almost certain to be less than the current shortest ban" under the domestic violence policy: a 30-game suspension issued to Yankees P Aroldis Chapman last year. Witz noted the Mets have "long prepared to open without Familia" (N.Y. TIMES, 3/28).
