Names In The News

USA TODAY profiled Yankees Senior VP & GM BRIAN CASHMAN who is "baseball's Renaissance Man, a pin-striped daredevil willing to try virtually anything." He wants to "swim with the sharks one day at the Tampa aquarium, run the New York City marathon, and even hike Kilimanjaro in Tanzania." Cashman: "You don’t want to wake up one day and say, 'I wish I had done this or wish I had done that.’ I want to be one of those guys that said, 'I did that.' When I was in China, I had fried jelly fish. Did I want to eat dry jelly fish? No, but at least I said I did it" (USA TODAY, 3/28).

CHANGING THE GAME: South Carolina's win against Florida on Sunday earned the school its "first trip to the Final Four" and earned coach FRANK MARTIN $100,000. Through South Carolina's four tournament victories -- the program's first since '73 -- Martin has "compiled a total of $200,000 in performance bonuses." He will "receive an additional bonus of $200,000" if the team wins the championship (GREENVILLE NEWS, 3/28).

FLIP THE SCRIPT: As management consultancies like Deloitte and Accenture are "becoming agencies in [their] own right," Interpublic Group-owned creative shop R/GA is "flipping the script." The agency’s "business transformation division is consulting" the likes of ESPN on consumer experience and growth strategy. R/GA’s consulting practice "charges its service by the business outcome as opposed to the traditional pricing model that bills their service by the hour." R/GA is "not the only shop that is brewing an agency-consultancy blend." For instance, last November, Publicis "combined" SapientNitro and Razorfish (DIGIDAY.com, 3/27).
