NCAA Tourney Continues Audience Increases Over '16; Regional Finals Score On Social

The NCAA Tournament is averaging 9.8 million viewers through last weekend's regional finals on CBS/Tuner platforms, up 10% from last year and the third most-watched tourney in 24 years. For the Regional Finals on TBS (Saturday) and CBS (Sunday), the tourney averaged 10.2 million viewers, up 11% from last year. Sunday's North Carolina-Kentucky game was the second most-watched Regional Final game (Saturday or Sunday) since '05 with 15.5 million viewers. The game peaked at 22.1 million viewers from 7:15-7:30pm ET (CBS/Turner).

SOCIAL ANIMALS: MULTICHANNEL NEWS' R. Thomas Umstead noted Sunday's Regional Final doubleheader on CBS "scored big on social media." Data from Nielsen Social shows UNC’s last-second win over Kentucky "drew a whopping 5.1 million Twitter and Facebook interactions from more than 2.2 million unique users." Meanwhile, South Carolina’s win over Florida "drew 1.6 million social media interactions from 928,000 unique social media accounts" (MULTICHANNEL.com, 3/27).
