Terrapin Beer Co. Will Brew Beer At SunTrust Park By Aging It In Vats With Bat Shavings

Terrapin Beer Co. is "taking the tradition of beer and baseball to the next level" at it's new SunTrust Park brewery, "aging their newest India pale ale in a vat filled with baseball bat shavings," according to Don Muret of SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL. Terrapin co-Founder & Brewmaster Brian Buckowski said that Chopsecutioner, the new draft beer, is "aged among maple bat chips shipped from Mizuno’s MLB bat factory overseas." The beer’s name "combines Hopsecutioner IPA, Terrapin’s signature product, and the Chophouse, the outfield restaurant at the Braves’ ballpark." The mashup is a "collaboration between two Braves partners." Athens, Ga.-based Terrapin, which is owned by MillerCoors, "has a microbrewery and taproom on site." Mizuno, whose U.S. HQ is in the Atlanta area, "developed the Mizuno Experience Center, a sports equipment showroom in The Battery" (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 3/27 issue). BEER STREET JOURNAL's Reid Ramsay wrote when the opportunity came to build a brewery in an MLB ballpark, Terrapin "couldn't say no." The Terrapin ATL Brew Lab "boasts a copper jacketed 5 barrel brew house that will be supplying the thirsty park goers directly." Styles will "fluctuate as the season dictates." The ATL Brew Lab will be "open to the public year-round" (BEERSTREETJOURNAL.com, 3/19).
