Media Notes

White Sox TV broadcaster Jason Benetti is entering his second season in the booth this year, and in Chicago, Daryl Van Schouwen notes Bennetti is a "big preparation guy." Bennetti admits getting "lost surfing through the Baseball Reference website," and also "listens to recordings of his broadcasts to make himself better." Benetti said, "Rarely do I ever say, ‘That’s OK.' I’ve listened to myself, and I say, ‘Where was I vocally there?’ ‘Why did I make that choice?’ ‘Why didn’t I pause?’ That sort of thing" (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 3/24).

STRAIGHT OUTTA THE STUDIO: Ice Cube’s 3-on-3 basketball league Tuesday announced a broadcast partnership with Fox Sports, and BIG3 Commissioner Roger Mason Jr. said it "speaks volumes to the players we have and to what this product is going to be on the court." Mason: "When we looked at, from a TV standpoint, Monday night prime time, sort of like what you have with Monday Night Football, we just thought the ability to have it on Mondays was just too good to pass up." He said Ice Cube and fellow league co-Founder Jeff Kwatinetz have been "doing business with Fox and have some other shows on television, so there’s a relationship there" (USATODAY.com, 3/22).

MAGIC MIKEY: In L.A., Lance Pugmire reported boxer Mikey Garcia will serve as a guest analyst on Showtime's broadcast of Saturday's World Boxing Association lightweight title rematch between champion Jorge Linares and England’s Anthony Crolla in Manchester, England (L.A. TIMES, 3/23).
