Monster Energy Exec Downplays Busch-Logano Fight, Plans New Activation During SoCal Race

Monster Energy VP/Sports Marketing Mitch Covington has downplayed Sunday's pit road incident between drivers Joey Logano and Kyle Busch following the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Covington, whose company also sponsors Busch in the Xfinity Series via its NOS Energy Drink brand, told THE DAILY last night, “We love the desire to win and the true emotions; that’s what attracts us to racing. Kyle and Joey are big boys and veterans at this. They will work it out in their own way.” The response from Monster follows NASCAR's decision not to penalize the two drivers or Logano's pit crew following the melee. Meanwhile, Covington revealed that Monster will have some new activation elements at the March 26 race at Auto Club Speedway, which is the NASCAR track closest to the Southern California-based company's HQ. The typically coy Covington declined to give specifics, aside from saying the midway fan experience zone will feature some new elements that amount to a “good show."
