United Center Unveils New Office Building, Fan Atrium; Retail Store Opening In Summer

United Center yesterday unveiled its "sparkling new office building and fan atrium" on the east side of the arena, according to Mark Lazerus of the CHICAGO SUN-TIMES. Blackhawks Chair Rocky Wirtz said that the atrium will "soon include restaurants and a team store, with the goal to make it a 12-month destination." It also provides an "indoor, climate-controlled space for fans to visit the Michael Jordan statue, and to use the ticket windows." With the Bulls’ Advocate Center opening last year, and the Blackhawks’ new practice facility and community ice center set to open in December, United Center is "more campus now than arena." Wirtz: "Can you imagine going to the box office and not freezing your you-know-what off? It’s going to be good" (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 3/2). In Chicago, John Dietz notes the atrium is 190,000 square feet, and atrium entrances will be open every day from 10:00am-6:00pm CT, "unless an event is going on, in which case it will be open until one hour after a game or concert." A 10,000-square-foot retail store is "set to open on the ground floor this summer." A sky bar, cafe and bar "will open" during the '17-18 NHL/NBA season. Bulls President & COO Michael Reinsdorf said, "It is insane how many people love to come here and take pictures (of the Jordan statue). It's been six or eight months since people have been able to take pictures, so we're excited to open up this addition" (Chicago DAILY HERALD, 3/2).
