ACC To Announce Championship Sites No Later Than May; N.C. Remains In Limbo Due To HB2

Future ACC championship games in the state of North Carolina "remain in limbo because of House Bill 2," according to Andrea Adelson of ESPN.com. ACC Commissioner John Swofford yesterday said that he "expects a decision on future conference championship game sites to come no later than the league's spring meetings in May." The ACC in September "pulled all its conference championship games" from North Carolina for the '16-17 season. Swofford: "Certainly by our spring meetings that will be determined in a definitive way. We won't be in a situation like we were last year -- with September decisions, in terms of our championships going forward -- and in some cases, it may be before our spring meetings." The ACC Council of Presidents is "scheduled to discuss the matter at a meeting during the men's basketball tournament March 7-11 in Brooklyn." The NCAA also "removed all championships from North Carolina" for '16-17, and it is currently "reviewing whether to award the state future NCAA championship events" between '18-22. North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper last week said that he "needs House Bill 2 to be repealed by the end of February so the state doesn't lose out on future NCAA championship events" (ESPN.com, 2/22).
