Ryan Sanders Baseball's Big League Weekend May Have To Switch Markets Next Year

Ryan Sanders Baseball has "hit a home run" with its H-E-B Big League Weekend in San Antonio, but there is a possibility the company will move the MLB series "out of the Alamo City next year," according to W. Scott Bailey of the SAN ANTONIO BUSINESS JOURNAL. Ryan Sanders has drawn "more than 230,000 fans to the Alamodome over the last five years," including 60,000 fans who "passed through the stadium’s turnstiles" for the two-game Rangers-Royals series last year. Big League Weekend Exec Dir J.J. Gottsch said that all signs point to this year’s games between the Rangers and Indians "attracting a similar number of ticket buyers." However, Bailey noted there are some "issues beyond Ryan Sanders’ control which could force a move of Big League Weekend." The Alamodome in '18 is "scheduled to host the NCAA Men’s Final Four," and Ryan Sanders is in the "final year of a five-year contract with the city" to use the venue. Both sides would need to "strike a new deal to extend the series’ run in San Antonio." Event organizers have already "begun to explore other options -- including the possibility of moving the series to another market" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 2/16).
