NBA Marketing Notes: Westbrook Stars In Mountain Dew Spot Ahead Of All-Star Game

ADWEEK's Katie Richards noted Mountain Dew "plans to have a big presence" at the NBA All-Star Game in New Orleans this weekend, and has released a spot starring Thunder G Russell Westbrook. Westbrook in the spot "does things that others say you probably shouldn’t do, like listening to his favorite slow jams to get pumped up for a big game or distracting teammates during important press conferences." The 30-second spot, from BBDO, N.Y., is "all about pushing boundaries and living life the way you want to live it." Mountain Dew this weekend will "host a 3-on-3 basketball game," with Westbrook and Cavaliers G Kyrie Irving serving as GMs for each team (ADWEEK.com, 2/13).

MILKING IT FOR ALL IT'S WORTH: Warriors G Klay Thompson is starring in a new Built With Chocolate Milk print and digital ad campaign that breaks tomorrow. Later this season, Thompson also will be featured in a digital content series produced by CBS Sports. The series will play off Thompson's superstition of triangles. Other Built With Chocolate Milk athlete endorsers include Wild LW Zach Parise, triathlete Mirinda Carfrae and U.S. swimmers Tyler Clary and Jessica Hardy (Built With Chocolate Milk).

DENIM DREAMS: ESQUIRE's Scott Christian reported Levi's and the NBA have "joined forces to create the NBA Collection, a range of the brand's most popular styles sporting logos" including the Warriors, Knicks, Bulls, Celtics and Lakers. Inspired by contemporary streetwear, the lineup "includes denim trucker jackets with a basketball-inspired leather patch and vintage chain stitching, classic crewneck sweatshirts with team chenille appliqués, nylon club coats with team prints, western shirts with the team logos and colors, and a leather sherpa jacket with a modern, minimalist take on the logos" (ESQUIRE.com, 2/13).

TEAM PLAYERS: Bud Light, the NBA's official beer sponsor, is releasing NBA Team Bud Light cans ahead of All-Star Weekend. The new packaging features 13 different cans, with team logos and colors available throughout the rest of the season (THE DAILY).
