The Great Paper Chase: Orlando City SC Going Fully Mobile For Tickets In '17 Season

Orlando City SC tickets will be "completely paperless this season, and the club is launching a 'Lion Nation' mobile app as its preferred method for fans to access their tickets," according to Alicia DelGallo of the ORLANDO SENTINEL. Orlando City VP/Sales Chris Gallagher said that Ticketmaster, which has been a partner since '14, "approached the club about a year ago to discuss going paperless." Data collected on how fans entered matches in '16 then "backed up the decision." Gallagher: "We’re very fortunate in that we have a very tech-savvy fan base. Soccer in general, I think, is tech savvy and this market in particular. ... Over 60 percent of our fans last year either entered the stadium with their season ticket cards or using their phones." The app, which also will "include club content and other information, will be available to everyone free of charge." Ticket holders log in to their accounts to "access their tickets and also can transfer them to other people." The QR code, the part of the electronic ticket scanned for entry, will "refresh every couple of seconds to help prevent fraud." If for any reason fans "cannot access their paperless tickets, they can go to the stadium’s box office to retrieve a paper ticket." Those instances will be the "only physical tickets used for entry" (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 2/14).
