Media Notes

In DC, Scott Allen noted the Capitals yesterday rolled out a "commemorative Snapchat filter" to celebrate LW Alex Ovechkin's recording his 1,000th career point last month. A "toothless grin" filter was available to all Snapchat users who scanned a "special team-issued Snapcode" at the team's game against the Kings. Capitals Digital Media Dir James Heuser said that the team "wanted to come up with a way for all fans to be a part" of yesterday's celebration. A special Snapcode was "printed on the back" of Ovechkin head cutouts at the game and "shared on the Capitals’ social-media accounts" (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 2/5).

PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE: Longtime NHL Kings broadcaster Bob Miller on Friday said that he "plans to meet soon with team officials to discuss how to move forward with his ability and availability to call games" after being released from the hospital last week following a mild stroke. Miller had been "recovering from a four-way heart-bypass operation in February last year." The expectation is that Miller will "only do home games the rest of this season and evaluate beyond that" (L.A. DAILY NEWS, 2/4).

OUTSIDE THE BOX
: In L.A., Mike DiGiovanna noted Clippers G J.J. Redick "plans to delve deeper into outside topics when he resumes his podcast" for Yahoo Sports' The Vertical. If the 40 podcasts he "taped last year are any indication, no subject will be too difficult to tackle." Redick, who suspended the podcast in November to concentrate on basketball and family, said, "For me, I can only talk so much about basketball, and I get a little bored." While he has "leaned heavily on teammates, opponents and coaches, Redick has summoned guests from other fields." Redick: "I try to keep things as relevant as possible" (L.A. TIMES, 2/4).
