Weekend Plans With Bucks VP Alicia Dupies: Growing Brand In Wisconsin, Midnight Hoops

Bucks VP/Corporate Social Responsibility ALICIA DUPIES has been on the job for 15 months, and considers herself lucky to work both in the Milwaukee area and with players who place a high level of importance on being involved in the community. Her department works closely with the league to ensure that the NBA Cares initiative is well represented locally. Long-term, Dupies is focused on growing the Bucks’ brand within the state. Dupies: “Here, people put on their Packers shirts on Thursday and they don’t take them off until Monday morning. We hope to be able to say the same with the Bucks brand in the very near future.”

STAYING BUSY: We have three girls, all heavy into sports. So that keeps the weekends busy to say the least. I’m announcing a swim meet for one of my daughter’s programs on Saturday, then I’m also attending a ski race over the weekend as well. Bucks-wise, we have two away games this weekend. On Friday night we’re taking on the Nuggets and then Saturday we’re facing the Suns as part of our West Coast trip. I will also be working on pulling together the last pieces of a strategic plan for the launching of a mentor-affiliate program here in Milwaukee, which is something that has been in the works for about 12 months now. I’m also working on the logistics for announcing a Midnight Basketball League which our own JOHN HENSON will be a big part of. We’re launching the league in conjunction with Milwaukee public schools and the Milwaukee Police Department geared at young men between the ages of 18-24. It will have a life skill mentoring component that we’re excited about as well.

RETURN OF THE SHARPSHOOTER: We’re working with former Bucks great MICHAEL REDD, who is spending two days with us next week focusing on the mentoring of young African-Americans here in Milwaukee. I’ve only been here for a relatively short amount of time, but it’s been fun to re-engage some of our legends and alumnus from the past who are committed to the Bucks brand under our new ownership with MARC LASRY and WES EDENS.

DEEP DEPTH: This roster we have is as authentic and genuine as I could ever imagine. They tell me there’s an area they’re interested in and then they give 110%. We’re also lucky to have partners who want to be part of the community rather than partners who contractually need to be. They’re also big on mentoring in general. We have a very racially segregated city and our guys are willing to help speak out on a social justice and social responsibility basis. It’s great to have guys like that.
