MLB Franchise Notes: Padres Not Working On Timetable To Replace CEO

In San Diego, Dennis Lin noted the Padres "do not have a timetable" for naming a CEO to replace Mike Dee. Erik Greupner, who was promoted to COO in November, has taken on a more "day-to-day oversight" following Dee’s departure. Padres Owner Ron Fowler: "We like Erik a lot. I think it's safe to say we're going to give Erik the best shot to become our CEO" (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 1/29).

IT'S A MARATHON, NOT A SPRINT: The White Sox held their Fan Fest over the weekend, and in Chicago, Colleen Kane wrote the event's "general vibe seemed to be acceptance" of the club's plan to "go through a years-long rebuild." White Sox Senior VP & GM Rick Hahn "faced a minimum of angry questions" during a fan Q&A session, but it "remains to be seen whether the general good nature will stick around as the Sox hit bumps." Hahn: "In reality we're closer to the start than we are the finish of this process of rebuilding this club" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 1/29).

I'D LIKE TO TRY THAT BREW: Brewers Owner Mark Attanasio said that the 2.3 million fans that came to Miller Park despite last year's 73-89 campaign is the "envy of many" MLB owners. However, he acknowledged that he had an "especially hard time last season adjusting to the rebuilding process that he initiated" with Brewers GM David Stearns. Attanasio, speaking at the team's Brewers On Deck event, said that he is "less focused on winning this year" than are Stearns and manager Craig Counsell. Attanasio: "I want to make sure we do the right things more so than wins or losses" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 1/30).

GET OUT THE FREEZE: Dodgers VP/Ticket Sales David Siegel said that the club "froze or cut the price on half" of single-game tickets for '17. He added that the Dodgers "increased the single-game price by more than $3 for 25% of tickets." Siegel said that the club "froze or cut the single-game price of half their tickets and increased the rest by $1, $2 or $3." In L.A., Bill Shaikin wrote as the Dodgers try to "maximize ticket revenue, they have reduced the number of games in which they offer their lowest price, from 16 three years ago and 11 two years ago to nine last year and two this year." Those two games "start at noon, one on a Wednesday and one on a Thursday" (L.A. TIMES, 1/28).
