Study Paints Dire Picture For Future Of PawSox' McCoy Stadium; Dayton Dragons Add Seating

An independent study on the future of the Triple-A Int'l League Pawtucket Red Sox' McCoy Stadium "did not bring great news" for those hoping the team would remain in its current ballpark "for much longer," according to Tim Britton of the PROVIDENCE JOURNAL. The team's lease runs through January '21, but the report from K.C.-based architecture firm Pendulum on the feasibility of a long-term future at McCoy "was exceedingly pessimistic, leading many ... to start thinking about alternative sites." The report "did provide a glimpse of what the future may have in store for the PawSox should they remain at the same site as the current McCoy Stadium, either through the demolition and construction" of a brand-new ballpark or a renovation of the current one (PROVIDENCE JOURNAL, 1/27). Britton notes McCoy is "17 years older than any other Triple-A ballpark and 46 years older than any other park" in the Int'l League. The Pendulum study is a "starting point for the future of the PawSox," but it "made it rather clear that McCoy is only meant to be part of their past" (PROVIDENCE JOURNAL, 1/27).

IMAGINE DRAGONS: In Dayton, Marcus Hartman reported the Single-A Midwest League Dayton Dragons "are planning to unveil a new addition to Fifth Third Field" for this season. Fans "will discover a new and improved 'Dragons Lair' in left field that includes updates to the flooring, furniture and other amenities." Dragons President & GM Robert Murphy said that the club "intends for it to be a 'high-end, all-inclusive hospitality area' for fans looking to host groups such as clients, employees or families." The updated section "will be named for AZEK Building Products" (DAYTON DAILY NEWS, 1/26).
