Audience Analysis: TNT Gets Big NBA Figure On MLK Day, But Season Average Taking A Hit

TNT on Martin Luther King Day drew 4.52 million viewers for Cavaliers-Warriors in the late-night window, marking the net’s best regular-season audience since Opening Night of the ’13-14 season, when Bulls-Heat drew 5.37 million viewers. Cavs-Warriors also is up from 3.62 million viewers for the same MLK Day matchup last year, but that game aired in the early window. Similar to the NFL, election coverage may have taken a bite out of TNT’s early-season audience, as the net is averaging 1.71 million viewers through Monday, which is its lowest figure since it got an expanded early-season schedule prior to the ’12-13 season. TNT is down 5% from 1.81 million viewers at the same point last season, and down from 1.92 million viewers at the same point of the ’14-15 season. While down from previous seasons, TNT looks likely to maintain the season-long viewership level it had during the '15-16 season.
