Disney Chair & CEO BOB IGER is in the "midst of talks to hire an author to write his memoirs." A source said that several "well-known business writers were told they were a no-go because Iger wanted to pitch the title to a wider audience" (N.Y. POST, 1/15). Meanwhile, Iger's compensation dipped in '16, as he made $43.9M compared to the $44.9M he made in '15. Disney said that Iger's pay "declined because company growth was not as strong" as in FY '15 (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 1/14).

ROUND OF APPLAUSE: Former Canada women's hockey player HAYLEY WICKENHEISER was "given a retirement ceremony" on Saturday during Flames-Oilers at Rogers Place. Oilers C CONNOR MCDAVID and Flames D MARK GIORDANO "presented her with framed No. 22 Edmonton and Calgary jerseys," while WAYNE GRETZKY also was "there to greet her." Video messages "came from throughout hockey" including Hockey HOFer MARK MESSIER, NHL Commissioner GARY BETTMAN and Canadian Prime Minister JUSTIN TRUDEAU. The "fingerprints" of Oilers Entertainment Group Vice Chair & CEO BOB NICHOLSON were "all over" the event. Wickenheiser "competed in six Olympics, five in hockey winning four gold medals and one in softball" (EDMONTON SUN, 1/15).

AWARDS & HONORS: Former 49ers President & CEO CARMEN POLICY today will be announced as one of five inductees into the Bay Area Sports HOF (S.F. CHRONICLE, 1/16)....The NBA Coaches Association will "introduce its own Michael H. Goldberg Coach of the Year Award this season." The award has been "conceived to honor" longtime NBCA Exec Dir MICHAEL GOLDBERG and will be "recognized by the league in addition to the annual NBA Coach of the Year award." He helped gain significant benefits for NBA coaches, including increased retirement funds and disability insurance (ESPN.com, 1/15)....The National Soccer Coaches Association of American awarded Orlando City SC co-Founder PHIL RAWLINS its Presidential Recognition Award for the club's "response to the Pulse nightclub shooting" (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 1/15)....Fox' MICHAEL STRAHAN on Thursday was "honored with the Future of Fashion Award at the YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund's awards dinner" (N.Y. : European Tour Founder JOHN JACOBS has “died at the age of 91.” Jacobs in ’54 “led the calls for the modernisation of the game, to include an increase in, and better distribution of, prize funds” (PA SPORT, 1/13).
