Cavaliers Ratings On FS Ohio Down 27%; Broadcasts Affected By Indians' WS Run

Ratings for Cavaliers broadcasts on FS Ohio are down 27% this year, a "stark drop" from the team's '15-16 season that set a network record with a 9.3 average in the regular season, according to Kevin Kleps of CRAIN'S CLEVELAND BUSINESS. FS Ohio's 35 broadcasts this season have averaged a 6.8 rating and are "being watched by more than 102,000 households per contest" in the Cleveland market. Several factors have "contributed to the ratings decrease," beginning with the Indians' trip to the World Series. FS Ohio's first five broadcasts this season went up against Games 3, 4 and 6 of the World Series, an Ohio State "night game against Nebraska and election night." FS Ohio's broadcasts have also "taken a hit on NFL Sundays." Another factor is that 11 of FS Ohio's 35 broadcasts have "coincided with the Cavs being shown on another network, which dilutes the local rating." The Cavs' FS Ohio ratings this season rank second to the Warriors in the local ratings race and are "slightly above" the Indians' 6.5 average last year on SportsTime Ohio. The Indians' '16 average was their "best in 11 years" (CRAINSCLEVELAND.com, 1/13).
