College AD Notes: Iowa State Extends Pollard Through '24; Grambling Introduces Paul Bryant

Iowa State's Jamie Pollard, the "third longest tenured" AD in the Big 12, yesterday received a contract extension through '24, according to Dylan Montz of the Cedar Rapids GAZETTE. Pollard has been AD since '05 (Cedar Rapids GAZETTE, 1/11). In Des Moines, Randy Peterson notes Pollard has "hired good coaches" during his time at ISU, while a "lot of money has been raised in his first 11 years on the job." Facilities "border on outstanding," and he is "not only respected within the Big 12 Conference, but also nationally" (DES MOINES REGISTER, 1/11).

NOT HIS FIRST RODEO: In Pittsburgh, Brian Batko notes Pitt Vice Chancellor of Research & Compliance Randy Juhl "will serve" as acting AD as the school moves on from Scott Barnes, who is joining Oregon State. Juhl already had been "appointed chair of a search committee tasked with helping to find Barnes’ full-time replacement, and now he will have the same temporary position" as he did in '15 after the dismissal of Steve Pederson (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 1/11).

TIGER TRACK: In Louisiana, Sean Isabella notes Grambling State yesterday introduced Paul Bryant as the new AD for a school that has "been void of a permanent athletic leader" since '14. Bryant had been South Carolina State AD the past two years. He "agreed to a two-year contract that will pay $160,000 annually." Although yesterday's presser was Bryant's "first major public appearance," his "first day on the job" was Jan. 1 (Monroe NEWS-STAR, 1/11).

BUZZ WORDS: In Sacramento, Joe Davidson notes former Sacramento State football coach John Volek "has returned" to the school as interim AD. Bill Macriss, who had been the school's AD since March '15, "has been reassigned within the department." SSU "has hired a search firm" to find Macriss' permanent replacement (SACRAMENTO BEE, 1/11).
