Long-Distance Relationship: Golden Knights Looking At Chicago As Possible AHL Affiliate

The Golden Knights have been in talks with the AHL Chicago Wolves "about having its top minor-leaguers play" for the club when the expansion NHL team debuts next season, according to Steve Carp of the LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL. Golden Knights Owner Bill Foley "would neither confirm nor deny the Wolves would be the team's AHL affiliate." He has previously said that he "hoped to have the team's AHL affiliate secured by the end of January." He also indicated that he wanted to find a club "that was not owned by an NHL team." The Wolves, which currently serve as the Blues' AHL affiliate, are "one of 12 AHL teams that are not owned by an NHL team." The Golden Knights "might like to be closer to their home base," but the "only Pacific Division AHL team that is not owned by an NHL team is the San Antonio Rampage." The Spurs own the Rampage, and Foley "confirmed there have not been conversations with that team." Carp noted partnering with the Wolves would "not be an ideal arrangement," but it would only be "for a couple of years until the Knights can fully stock their own roster." The AHL has "several teams whose NHL affiliations are not close to each other" (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 1/1).
