City Of L.A. Using Summer-Themed Rose Parade Float To Promote '24 Games Bid

The city of L.A.'s official float in the upcoming Rose Parade, called "Follow the Sun," will celebrate Southern California’s "sunny, beach-friendly weather as a reason to host" the '24 Games, according to Elizabeth Chou of the L.A. DAILY NEWS. The city’s tourism bureau is "partnering with LA 2024, the committee that’s leading the bid to bring the Games" to L.A., to "help with the pitch." Four members of a youth board advising the nonprofit LA84 Foundation will be "riding and walking alongside the float during the parade, as part of an effort to showcase the legacy" of the past two Summer Games hosted in L.A. The youth athletes will be "joined on the float by their Olympic and Paralympic heroes, including gymnast Nadia Comaneci, beach volleyball players April Ross and Sinjin Smith, cross-country skier Candace Cable and runner and swimmer Rudy Garcia Tolson." Crushed walnut shells will be used "to form a sandy beach where a live volleyball game will be played by Olympians during the parade, with a sun peering over the scene" (L.A. DAILY NEWS, 12/27).
