Kaepernick Says He Has Received Varied Receptions This Season Over Anthem Protest

49ers QB Colin Kaepernick yesterday said the level of support for his National Anthem protest "has varied from city to city this season," with the team's trip Sunday to play the Falcons "being the most friendly," according to Matt Barrows of the SACRAMENTO BEE. Kaepernick said, “Atlanta was somewhere where I had a lot of support, a lot of people saying they agree with what I’m doing, support it and are happy that I did it and to keep going and to stay strong. And there’s other places where the fans don’t agree as much.” Barrows notes at the "top of the inhospitable list" was the Bills' New Era Field in Buffalo, where Kaepernick made his first start of the season in October. There were "boos when Kaepernick took the field for the first time" and "plenty of abuse was shouted from the stands" throughout the game. Kaepernick said of the varied responses he has received, "It shows the different cultures and different beliefs throughout this country, and it also makes it very evident that there’s a difference in perspective between white America and black America” (SACRAMENTO BEE, 12/21). In Oakland, Cam Inman notes despite the positive support Sunday, some boos "echoed throughout Atlanta's Georgia Dome when Kaepernick took the initial snaps." Kaepernick: "I want to go where people truly want to create change. That’s somewhere that change definitely needs to be created. But there are better places where this needs to be initiated and grow" (EAST BAY TIMES, 12/21).
