NCAA Announces Reorganization At Top Level; Dan Gavitt Gets More Responsibilities

NCAA President MARK EMMERT today announced a "reorganization at the senior staff level" of the organization, with the changes taking effect Jan. 1 and addressing a "need to have a single person focused on basketball issues, strategies and long-term planning," according to Michelle Brutlag Hosick of NCAA.org. The NCAA promoted VP/Men's Basketball Championships DAN GAVITT to Senior VP/Basketball, where he will "oversee all basketball issues and planning for both men’s and women’s basketball in all three divisions." NCAA VP/Women’s Basketball ANUCHA BROWNE will report to Gavitt, who will also "continue to manage NCAA relationships with Turner and CBS" related to the D-I Men’s Basketball Championship. Meanwhile, the NCAA named interim Exec VP/Championships & Alliances JONI COMSTOCK Senior VP/Championships. She will oversee all championships except D-I men’s and women’s basketball and will "manage playing rules, ticket sales and marketing, and social and media coordination." In addition, the NCAA promoted Exec VP/Regulatory Affairs OLIVER LUCK to Exec VP/Regulatory Affairs & Strategic Partnerships. Luck will "now have strategic oversight of corporate and broadcast partnerships" and will "oversee football issues, strategy and long-term planning" (NCAA.org, 12/14).
