Sherman Blasts "TNF," Says Players Will Push For Game's Elimination In Next CBA

Seahawks CB Richard Sherman yesterday "let the world know" what he thinks about the NFL's "TNF" games, "calling them an 'absolute poopfest,'" according to Bob Condotta of the SEATTLE TIMES. The Seahawks tomorrow host the Rams on "TNF," and Sherman said that asking players to compete twice over a four-day stretch is a "disservice to the players." He added that it is "at odds with the league's reported stance of caring about their safety." Sherman: "We played [at the Packers on Sunday], got home about 1 o’clock in the morning, something like that, on Monday and then you’ve got to play again. Congratulations NFL, you did it again. But they have been doing it all season, so I guess we are the last ones to get the middle finger.’’ He added that there is "not much players can really do to recover physically to play a game four days later." Sherman, the Seahawks' NFLPA player rep, said that the union will "try to push for an end to the Thursday night games" when negotiating a new CBA. Sherman: "They make this huge stance about player safety and then you put players in tremendous danger. ... There’s really not much you can do right now. It’s part of the revenue, etc. The league probably has something else up their sleeve. Might have a Friday night game planned, who knows?’’ (SEATTLE TIMES, 12/14). In Tacoma, Gregg Bell notes while many players have criticized "TNF," some "point out it’s a plus on the backside for teams that play Thursday night, because of the 10 days between that game and the following one." Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin said, "That’s a plus, but hopefully you make it to those 10 days.” Seahawks DE Michael Bennett: “The good thing is everyone is hurtin’ (including the Rams, who got smacked 42-14 by Atlanta on Sunday). So it’s fair" (THENEWSTRIBUNE.com, 12/13). Sherman today pens a piece for The Players' Tribune on his dislike for "TNF."

OFF THE RECORD: PRO FOOTBALL TALK's Mike Florio noted the official league transcript from Sherman's press conference "surprisingly omitted" his "poopfest" comment (PROFOOTBALLTALK.com, 12/13).
