Washington State Sells Out Holiday Bowl Ticket Allotment; Tennessee Aiding Music City Sales

Washington State sold out its 7,000-ticket bowl allotment "within 48 hours and had to request an additional 1,000 tickets" for its Dec. 27 matchup against Minnesota in the National Funding Holiday Bowl, according to Stefanie Loh of the SEATTLE TIMES. WSU has "sold a little over 7,500 tickets" for the game at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego. Things have "calmed down some after a frantic Monday that saw the Cougars ticket office bring in extra people to work the phone lines, but a constant stream of tickets are still being snapped up." The Holiday Bowl has "not sold out" since '09, when Nebraska played Arizona. Holiday Bowl Exec Dir Mark Neville said that overall ticket sales are "doing well, and tracking well ahead of their numbers this time last year." Neville said that as of Friday afternoon, the Holiday Bowl had sold "just over 50,000 tickets, with more than two weeks left before gameday." Last year, the game "sold a total of 48,329 tickets" for Wisconsin-USC (SEATTLE TIMES, 12/10).

MUSIC TO MY EARS: In Nashville, Mike Organ noted the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl is "nearing a sellout seven days after it was announced that Tennessee and Nebraska would play." More than 65,000 tickets have been "sold for the Dec. 30 game at Nissan Stadium, which will be televised on ESPN." The last time the bowl "was a sellout" was in '10 when Tennessee played North Carolina. Tennessee’s allotment of 8,000 tickets was "all sold by Friday." Music City Bowl President & CEO Scott Ramsey said that Nebraska is "expected to sell the remainder of its allotment in the next few days" (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 12/11).

PAR FOR THE COURSE: In Louisiana, Sean Isabella noted ticket sales at Louisiana Tech for the Armed Forces Bowl against Navy are "on par" with their last two bowl games, the New Orleans Bowl in '15 and the Heart of Dallas Bowl in '14. Louisiana Tech officials are "expecting a solid turnout for the Dec. 23 game on the campus of TCU." Louisiana Tech Senior Associate AD/External Affairs Marco Born said that the school's allotment of tickets is "around 8,500." As of Friday afternoon, around 30-40% had "been sold." Tech sold "approximately 6,000 tickets to the Heart of Dallas Bowl" in '14 (Monroe NEWS-STAR, 12/10).

TOUGH TASK: In Wyoming, Randy Tucker writes the Dec. 21 Wyoming-BYU San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego is a "tremendous opportunity" that comes with "additional, often hidden requirements for the schools playing in it." Wyoming AD Tom Burman said, "We've sold 2,000 tickets. Our break-even point is 3,000. We hope people will still go to the game. We have to deliver ticket sales." While the Poinsettia Bowl is a "tribute" to Wyoming coach Craig Bohl's "successful conversion of Wyoming from cellar-dweller to division champion in the Mountain West Conference, the timing of the bowl presents some difficulties for fans." Burman: "It's in the middle of the week, and it's only four days before Christmas which creates some challenges" (Fremont County RANGER, 12/12).
