Reebok Confirms Move Of HQ To Boston, Details Plans For Facility Along City's Waterfront

Reebok will move its "corporate headquarters, and 700 jobs, to the Innovation & Design Building, a sprawling former warehouse on the edge of Boston’s waterfront," according to Tim Logan of the BOSTON GLOBE. Reebok will move next fall into "about 220,000 square feet on five floors, with office space, a two-story gym, a design lab, a retail store, and a public restaurant." The company even plans to "create a mile-long running track around the building." Reebok in November announced plans to "leave its longtime home" in Canton, Mass., and move to Boston. For Reebok and its parent company adidas, the move is "part of a broader restructuring that includes shedding 300 jobs." Some employees "will be let go, while others will be offered jobs" at adidas’ North American HQ in Portland, Ore. (BOSTON GLOBE, 12/8). Reebok President Matt O’Toole said that the site "opens up greater potential to collaborate with Boston’s innovation companies and academic institutions, without sacrificing the product development space of a suburban campus." O'Toole: “There’s a lot of space out there for us to really kind of put down our fitness culture in a powerful way." In Boston, Jack Encarnacao notes the facility will also feature a “'Makers Lab,' a space visible to the public showcasing 'the next generation of footwear and apparel creation techniques'” (BOSTON HERALD, 12/8).
