DC Vote Puts Live-Action Billboards One Step Closer To Appearing Outside Nationals Park

Live-action billboards are getting closer to appearing outside of Nationals Park after a bill to "allow the giant screens ... passed a first vote" by DC Council on Tuesday, according to Karen Goff of the WASHINGTON BUSINESS JOURNAL. The Nationals Park Graphics & Entertainment Regulatory Amendment Act of '16 had an original plan that "called for 10 billboards" on the ballpark's exterior. The amended bill says that only five "will be allowed and that future signs in any 'designated entertainment area' would need council approval." The amended bill also "includes a 'lights-off' provision (60 minutes after a game ends), specific language on brightness controls and angles of billboards facing South Capitol Street, as well as limits on audio." It also says that community groups can have 10% of the "airtime annually." Goff noted the DC Council will "give the bill a second vote on Dec. 20, when it will likely pass." The Nationals said that they "hope to have the billboards in place" for the '18 MLB All-Star Game (BIZJOURNALS.com, 12/7).
