Bonney Field In Sacramento To Host '17 MLL All-Star Game As League Looks To Expand

Sacramento's Bonney Field will host the '17 MLL All-Star Game in July, a choice the Sacramento Sports Commission "says is part of an effort to increase interest in the sport in California," according to Mark Anderson of the SACRAMENTO BUSINESS JOURNAL. The MLL has nine teams, and "most are from the Atlantic seaboard from Boston to Florida." Denver is the "farthest west city with a team in the league." The league aims to "expand to 16 teams in the next decade." The '16 ASG was held at Cal State Fullerton's 10,000-seat Titan Stadium. S.F. had an MLL franchise, the Dragons, from '06-08. MLL Special Events Manager Dan Pellicano said, "We know Northern California has a vibrant lacrosse market. Our goal is to have a team out in the west." In addition to the Saturday ASG, the weekend will "include a two-day youth lacrosse tournament at the Cherry Island Sports Complex in Sacramento County" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 12/7).
