The Shaq Of Approval: O'Neal Outlines Endorsement Strategy On "Late Night"

Basketball HOFer Shaquille O'Neal discussed his endorsement strategy during an appearance last night on NBC's "Late Night," saying he has to "really like" a brand to partner with them. NBC's Seth Meyers started the conversation by saying O'Neal should be in the "Business Hall of Fame, because you've been really smart throughout your career" and in his post-NBA life. O'Neal said, "I always tell the story that Wheaties wanted me to be on the cover on the box of Wheaties, and I was like, ‘I don't know what that tastes like. I can't do it.’ But if you call Frosted Flakes, me and Tony (the Tiger) will look good on the cover.” He said he gives his co-hosts on TNT's "Inside The NBA" gifts from companies he endorses, noting he is giving Charles Barkley “some Icy Hot." O'Neal: "He’s going to get some Krispy Kreme -- that’s his favorite meal anyway -- and some Shaq watches, Shaq shoes, Shaq everything” (“Late Night,” NBC, 12/6).

SHOP LOCAL: USA TODAY's A.J. Neuharth-Keusch noted O'Neal as part of a deal he began with AmEx last month appears in an ad with actor Jeremy Piven in which he "encourages cardmembers to shop local and support small businesses." The HOFer also appears with comedian Wanda Sykes in the "third and final commercial of the series." Rapper Kendrick Lamar appeared next to O'Neal in the first ad of the campaign (USATODAY.com, 12/1).
