Veteran AP Olympics reporter STEVE WILSON has accepted a job as Exec Dir for Communications & Int’l Relations for the Int'l Tennis Federation. Wilson has spent 37 years at the AP, including the last 25 as European Sports Editor, where he covered the IOC, 15 Olympics and more than 20 Wimbledon championships. He starts Jan. 9 at the ITF (Ben Fischer, Staff Writer)....The D-backs named Pirates Quantitative Analyst MIKE FITZGERALD Dir of Research and Development. This is the club's "first big hire in that area as it looks to beef up the department" under new Exec VP & GM MIKE HAZEN. Fitzgerald graduated with a mathematics degree from MIT and was captain of the football team (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 12/3)....Longtime Twins exec and former GM BILL SMITH is "leaving the organization to pursue other interests." He has been with the team since '86 in a "variety of roles, most notably when he took over GM duties" in '08. He will remain with the club through Jan. 31 (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 12/3)....CSN Bay Area and CSN California promoted Senior Exec Producer of Live Events DAVID KOPPETT to VP/Content Strategy (NBCU)....Texas Motor Speedway promoted BRYAN VANDIVER to VP/Operations & Development (TMS)....Marketing and signage company ANC named ASHLEIGH BEADLE Human Resources Manager (ANC)....Univ. of Iowa Senior Associate AD/Sports Administration & Operations PAULA JANTZ is retiring Feb. 1 after working for the school for 36 years (Cedar Rapids GAZETTE, 12/4).
