Univ. Of Oregon Associate AD Vin Lananna Named New USA Track & Field President

TrackTown USA President and Univ. of Oregon Associate AD Vin Lananna on Thursday was "named president of USA Track & Field," according to Chris Hansen of the Eugene REGISTER-GUARD. Lananna beat out former U.S. Olympian Jackie Joyner-Kersee, as the winner "was to be selected Saturday by a USATF member vote at its annual meeting in Orlando." But Joyner-Kersee "dropped out of the running for the position on Thursday, and USATF named Lananna as its president by acclamation." Lananna will join the BOD. He will replace Stephanie Hightower, who is at the "end of her second four-year term as president." He will also "maintain his positions with TrackTown and Oregon." Lananna was "receiving widespread social media support in recent weeks from many of his former Oregon athletes, as well as some of his Olympic team members" (Eugene REGISTER-GUARD, 12/2). In Portland, Ken Goe notes Lananna in '05 became Oregon's head track coach and an Associate AD. He became president of TrackTown USA after "stepping down as UO coach" in '12. The USATF presidency is a "volunteer position" (Portland OREGONIAN, 12/2).
