Packers' Murphy Frustrated With Team's Play, But Says Mass Changes Not The Answer

While the Packers are on a four-game losing streak and in jeopardy of missing the playoffs for the first time since '08, team President & CEO Mark Murphy told Milwaukee-based WTMJ-AM that he "feels the same way about the team's 4-6 record as most fans do," but "the answer isn't just to fire people midseason, especially, (given that) we've had a run of success," according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com. Murphy said, "I do hear from a lot of fans. And I tell fans: Like them, I'm disappointed." Murphy said that the team's public-ownership structure "does not impact the way football decisions are made." Murphy: "The (public perception) of that is, the Packers are really harmed because they don't have an individual owner who can go in and fire somebody. Well, if you look across the league, when those individual owners do things like that, it usually doesn't turn out very well." Murphy said the team's coaches and personnel, including Exec VP, GM & Dir of Football Operations Ted Thompson and coach Mike McCarthy, have "shown in the past they can turn things around." Murphy: "Taking that approach certainly makes more sense than just firing people to fire people" (ESPN.com, 11/22).
