EPL Clubs Get Go-Ahead To Begin Selling Sleeve Sponsorships On Game Jerseys

EPL clubs could rake in up to US$12.5M more per season "after they were given the go-ahead to sell advertising space on their shirt sleeves," according to Tom Hopkinson of the London DAILY MIRROR. The proposal, "put forward by clubs" to league execs, was agreed to two weeks ago and teams business divisions are "already negotiating deals for the start of next season." It is believed the sleeve space is valued at around 20% of the clubs' main shirt deal. At least two clubs "will miss out in the short term because their current main shirt sponsorship deals include clauses forbidding the appearance of other company logos on their jerseys." Just under half of those that are "able to strike their own deals plan to do so, while a group of 10 clubs are looking to sell their new advertising space to one company as part of a package deal" (London DAILY MIRROR, 11/12).
