Retired Gen. Martin Dempsey Set To Replace Jerry Colangelo As USA Basketball Chair

Retired U.S. Army Gen. MARTIN DEMPSEY, who also served as Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is "set to replace" JERRY COLANGELO as USA Basketball Chair, according to sources cited by Adrian Wojnarowski of THE VERTICAL. The USA Basketball BOD will "approve Dempsey’s candidacy at a Nov. 14 meeting." NBA Commissioner ADAM SILVER "hired Dempsey as a consultant" in October '15, and he has served as Chair of the Junior NBA Leadership Council. Dempsey’s focus will be on the "business and relationships of the broad-based national team programs, including cultivating relationships within the NBA and NCAA" (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 11/3). USA Basketball on Thursday announced that Colangelo would step down. In Philadelphia, Jonathan Tannenwald noted Colangelo had been in the role since '09 and "officially served two elected four-year terms." Colangelo will "continue to work" as Managing Dir of the U.S. men's national team (PHILLY.com, 11/3).
