UFC Canada Boss Tom Wright Let Go After Six Years As Part Of Companywide Job Cuts

UFC Exec VP and GM/Operations for Canada, Australia & New Zealand TOM WRIGHT has been "laid off as part of large job cuts" by WME-IMG, according to Dave Deibert of the Saskatoon STARPHOENIX. Wright, a former CFL commissioner, "joined UFC more than six years ago." Wright during his time with UFC "accomplished what he said in May 2010 was his No. 1 goal: getting the sport regulated in every province and territory in Canada." UFC earlier this week reportedly cut "around 15 per cent" of its global staff, with the layoffs ranging from "high-ranking executives to lower-level staff." In addition to Wright, "all but two employees in the Canadian office were laid off" (Saskatoon STARPHOENIX, 10/20). In Calgary, Daniel Austin notes as the layoffs were happening Tuesday, UFC staff -- including Wright -- were "busy making the media rounds in Toronto with DANIEL CORMIER and ANTHONY JOHNSON, who will headline UFC 206" at Air Canada Centre in December (CALGARY SUN, 10/20). In Toronto, Morgan Campbell notes UFC Canada Dir of Communications CAROLYN BLAKELY "will remain with the company" (TORONTO STAR, 10/20).
