Taking A Deeper Look: Comscore Rankings See ESPN Post Largest Margin In Uniques

ESPN, in addition to setting a company record in September with 104.6 million unique digital users and becoming the second entity ever to cross 100 million uniques in recently released figures, set several other sports category comScore records. ESPN also posted the largest-ever margin between the No. 1 and No. 2 entities in monthly rankings, with a lead of 31.4 million uniques over CBS Sports during the month, as well as record totals of 85.4 million unique users on mobile platforms and 7.4 billion minutes of mobile consumption. ESPN execs credited the results in part to its reworked ESPN Fantasy app, which was consolidated from several separate products over the summer and redesigned with a new user interface. “There was a convergence of a lot of prevailing trends during the month,” said ESPN VP/Digital Media Research & Analytics David Coletti. “On total minutes, we were essentially flat from a year ago, but we were up substantially on mobile as we continue to see more traffic migrate in that direction.”
