What's On Tap: Braves Partner With Terrapin On Brewery/Taproom At SunTrust Park

The Braves have signed a deal with regional brewer Terrapin Beer Co. to build a restaurant and microbrewery at The Battery Atlanta, the mixed-use development next to SunTrust Park. Delaware North Sportservice, the concessionaire at the new ballpark, will run the Terrapin Taproom situated outside the right-field gate. The microbrewery, titled ATL Brew Lab, will produce several baseball-themed beers. Construction starts in November, with the taproom expected to open for the start of the '17 season. Athens-based Terrapin is owned by MillerCoors, a SunTrust Park sponsor (Don Muret, Staff Writer). Terrapin co-Founder & VP/Brewing Development Brian Buckowski said, "Our wheels are spinning for what we'll exclusively brew at the ballpark and we cannot wait to get in there and start" (ATHENS BANNER-HERALD, 10/19).

CAUSE & EFFECT: In Atlanta, Meris Lutz notes Cobb County commissioners last night "approved a new mixed-use development" just south of the new ballpark. Attorney John Moore, representing the developer, "chalked the new project up to the halo effect of SunTrust Park." Moore: "The Braves coming to this Cumberland Galleria area has shown a light on it that maybe people hadn’t noticed before. The Braves definitely have an effect on this, there’s no question" (ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION, 10/19).
