ESPN Returns To Top Of ComScore Rankings After Being Bumped Out By Rio Games

ESPN in September returned to the top of comScore multiplatform digital rankings for U.S. sports media, a month after the Yahoo Sports-NBC Sports Network digital alliance used record traffic from the Rio Games to break ESPN’s 29-month hold on the top slot. ESPN’s total of 104.6 million unique users, fueled in part by the return of college and pro football, was just the second time any entity has topped the 100 million mark after Yahoo Sports-NBC Sports Network did it in August with 110.4 million uniques. ESPN also led in consumption metrics, posting totals of 10.29 billion minutes in total time spent, and an average time spent per user of 98.4 minutes. Those figures, however, still stood below ESPN’s category record totals of 10.31 billion minutes and an average of 109.3 minutes per user during September ’15. ESPN additionally had by far the top mobile app during the month, with its ESPN Fantasy generating 2.77 billion minutes of consumption during the month, twice as much as any other app.
