Lions Announce Retro Food, Beer Prices For Sunday Home; Attendance Becoming Concern?

The Lions yesterday announced that beer and hot dogs "will be sold at retro prices" for Sunday's 1:00pm ET game against the Rams at Ford Field, according to Tony Paul of the DETROIT NEWS. Beers will cost $3.50, while hot dogs will be $2.50. Lions Senior VP/Business Development Kelly Kozole called it a "fun promotion that not only has a nostalgia touchpoint, but also is a value addition to the game-day experience." Paul notes the Lions are celebrating the '91 team that "set a franchise-record for regular-season wins, with 12, including an 8-0 record at the Pontiac Silverdome." The first 20,000 fans inside the stadium by noon will "receive a Barry Sanders bobblehead, and there's a ticket offer for the game that includes a Lions Zubaz giveaway" (DETROIT NEWS, 10/11). Meanwhile, in Detroit, Bill Shea noted announced attendance for Sunday's Eagles-Lions game at Ford Field was 58,047, the "smallest home crowd in a year." There were "evident gaps in some seating sections -- more than just the usual vacancies you see because fans are at concession stands or in the restroom." The Lions have "nearly 50,000 season ticket holders, who get counted toward the attendance total regardless of whether of they show up or not" (CRAINSDETROIT.com, 10/10).
