Palace Sports & Entertainment Leadership Shifts Amid Rumors Of Pistons Downtown Move

A "reshuffling is underway among the leadership group" at Palace Sports & Entertainment, the organizational entity over the Pistons, according to Vince Ellis of the DETROIT FREE PRESS. A source said that Vice Chair ARN TELLEM and Platinum Equity Partner BOB WENTWORTH, a "key figure of the ownership group, will now oversee business operations," while PS&E President & CEO DENNIS MANNION "will move into a new role." Company employees "were informed of the reshuffling via a companywide memo Friday." The news "appears to bring increased responsibility for Tellem." The memo also said that Platinum Equity Principal STEVE ZOLLO and Principal DAN KRASNER "will take on larger roles at PS&E, on behalf of ownership." The personnel moves are being made "with an eye toward the future." This will "lead to increased speculation that the Pistons are seriously considering a move downtown to partner with the Red Wings and Olympia Entertainment at Little Caesars Arena next fall" (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 10/9). Pistons VP/PR Kevin Grigg said that Mannion, who was hired in '11, is "transitioning into an advisory role" with PS&E and Platinum Equity. In Detroit, Bill Shea noted the shakeup at the top comes as the Pistons are in "advanced talks to build a 60,000-square-foot practice facility north of Little Caesars Arena" (CRAINSDETROIT.com, 10/8). MLIVE.com's Aaron McMann noted the reason for the shakeup at the top is "unclear, but comes as speculation ramps up" over the possible move to downtown (MLIVE.com, 10/9).
