USA Today Sports Media Group parent company Gannett Co. has acquired Golfweek from Turnstile Media Group, expanding its presence in the sport. The magazine's HQ will remain in Orlando, with additional offices in N.Y., L.A. and at Gannett's McLean, Va., base. Financial terms were not disclosed, but the deal includes the weekly magazine, a related events business and Golfweek Custom Media, which produces event programs for many leading pro tournaments (Eric Fisher, Staff Writer).

PROCESS PLAYING OUT: In Philadelphia, Jonathan Tannenwald noted CSN Philadelphia's Tuesday broadcast of the 76ers' preseason opener against the Celtics "drew a 1.6 rating, the highest rating for a preseason game" since the '11-12 season. 76ers C Joel Embiid and F Dario Saric each made their much-anticipated debuts, drawing "much of the interest" (PHILLY.com, 10/5).

TALKING SHOP: Former NHLers Colby Armstrong and Mike Rupp will join the Root Sports Pittsburgh broadcast team as Penguins postgame analysts. Either Armstrong or Rupp will work alongside host Rob King and Jay Caufield throughout the season (Root Sports Pittsburgh).

On this week’s pod, SBJ’s Austin Karp has two Big Get interviews. The first is with TNT’s Stan Van Gundy as he breaks down the NBA Playoffs from the booth. Later in the show, we hear from ESPN’s VP of Programming and Acquisitions Tim Reed as the NFL Draft gets set to kick off on Thursday night in Motown.
