Bud Selig Nominated For Election To Baseball HOF, Joined By Schuerholz, Steinbrenner

MLB Commissioner Emeritus BUD SELIG is "one of 10 nominees on the Today's Game Era ballot to be voted on for election" to the Baseball HOF, according to Tom Haudricourt of the MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL. The list of five former players, three executives and two managers "will be reviewed and voted on Dec. 5," and any candidate receiving 75% of the ballots cast by the 16-member committee "will earn election" to the HOF. Selig is joined on the ballot by Braves Vice Chair JOHN SCHUERHOLZ and late Yankees Owner GEORGE STEINBRENNER. The Today's Game Era was one of four Eras Committees identified in July when the HOF's BOD "announced changes to that system, which provides consideration to managers, umpires and executives as well as players no longer on the BBWAA ballot." The 10 finalists were "selected by a BBWAA-appointed historical overview committee, which considered those with significant impact on the game" from '88 through the present. Of the previous eight commissioners, four "were elected" to the HOF: KENESAW MOUNTAIN LANDIS, HAPPY CHANDLER, FORD FRICK and BOWIE KUHN (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 10/4). The AP's Mike Fitzpatrick noted it is Selig's "first appearance" on a HOF ballot, and the "third for Steinbrenner." He "fell short" on '10 and '13 Expansion Era ballots (AP, 10/3).
