People & Personalities: Colts Announcer Apologies For On-Air Expletive

In Indianapolis, Phil Friend notes Colts radio play-by-play announcer Bob Lamey "apologized Monday night" after saying an expletive on the air at the end of Sunday's game against the Chargers. Lamey said, "I'm extremely ashamed of myself and what happened last night on the game. It's not normal for me. I've been fighting it all day long." He added, "What I said was not necessary. It was out of place. It'll never happen again" (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 9/28). Lamey at the end of the broadcast of the game said, "The game is finally f---ing over." The Colts issued a statement regarding his comments: "Profanity has no place in Colts broadcasting. Bob has expressed extreme regret. ... We have accepted his sincere apology, and forgiven him for his misstep" (ESPN.com, 9/26).

BACK AT IT
: In Milwaukee, Gary D'Amato notes former NBAer Vin Baker, who "battled depression and blew through" nearly $100M in career earnings, will "work select games this season" as an analyst on FS Wisconsin's "Bucks Live" pre- and postgame shows. When Bucks co-Owners Wes Edens and Marc Lasry bought the team in '14, one of their goals was to "reconnect the franchise with its legacy players and to re-engage them in the community." Bucks coach Jason Kidd said, "It's great for our organization to have Vin Baker be apart of it." D'Amato notes Baker will be around the team during the regular season in his role as a Fox analyst, though the "number of games he'll work has not been determined." Baker said that his "style would be to rely equally on analytics and his feel for the game to inform viewers" (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 9/28).

RETURN TO SENDER
: In N.Y., Jake Becker noted former NBAer Derek Fisher is "returning to the Lakers organization as a studio analyst for Spectrum SportsNet." Fisher has "some in-studio experience under his belt, though very limited." In April, he shared TNT's "Inside the NBA" stage with Basketball HOFer Shaquille O'Neal as a "guest analyst for an NBA doubleheader" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 9/27).

NO FEAR
: In Minneapolis, Jim Souhan wrote Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee is the "best in America at what he does." What sets Chamblee "apart from the average golf analyst, and from so many who fail to do the job properly while covering other sports, is fearlessness." Speaking "harsh truths in a closed society can be uncomfortable." But Chamblee evidently "doesn't care." Golf Channel is better for understanding that "honest criticism is vital for any media outlet, and has built one of the best studio shows in sports around Chamblee" (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 9/27).

GREENER PASTURES: In Boston, Gayle Fee reported former WEEI-FM hosts John Dennis and Mike Adams have "landed new gigs and neither one is returning to sports radio." Dennis has "launched a new venture as a public speaker for corporate events, a media coach and brand voice." Dennis said that he has already "booked a half-dozen gigs." Adams was "axed in June" after 23 years at WEEI in a "cost cutting move," and his "Planet Mikey" show has moved to WFNQ-FM in Nashua, N.H., WFNK-FM in Portland, Maine, and WBYA-FM in Rockland, Maine (BOSTON HERALD, 9/27).
