Petco Park To Remain Busy During Padres Offseason With Expanded Golf, Other Events

Petco Park this MLB offseason will be the "host for more than two dozen ventures" before the start of the '17 MLB season, from next week’s "Padres Futures Game to monster truck action to the return of The Links at Petco Park," according to Jeff Sanders of the SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE. The popularity of The Links, an event in which Petco gets transformed into a golf course, has "led the Padres to nearly double the tee times available for this year’s layout." Padres President & CEO Mike Dee said, "We underestimated the demand so we built it into our calendar year to have more capacity and more days." Sanders noted this year's calendar also includes a "Padres prospects exhibition game on Oct. 7, Pedal at the Park in November, Supercross and Monster Jam dates after the New Year and more than 20 private corporate events, many of them held in conjunction with visiting conventions." The Padres are "scaling back this year’s Holiday Wonderland to a non-paid event that will be limited to the Park at the Park, allowing staff ample time to prepare for this year’s World Baseball Classic in March" (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 9/27).
