Facility Notes

Pro Football HOFer Ronnie Lott said that he is “‘optimistic’ that his investment group can get something done with the political leaders of the city of Oakland and Alameda County to build a stadium for the Raiders in Oakland.” Lott said that he has been “meeting regularly with the city and the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Authority, which jointly own the property that is home to the Coliseum and Oracle Arena.” He added that he also has “talked to” Raiders Owner Mark Davis. Lott and partner, former NFLer Rodney Peete, “have an agreement with the city and county that gives them 90 days to work out a deal for the Coliseum” (S.F. CHRONICLE, 9/28).

TRAINING DAY: MLS expansion club Atlanta United FC President Darren Eales said that construction of the club’s $60M training facility in Marietta “remains on plan, on budget and on time.” In Atlanta, Doug Roberson noted the plan is for the MLS club's academy teams to “play their matches on the fields there in January.” Two of the fields in front of the building “are almost complete.” Eales said that there “weren’t any significant changes to the original plans for the headquarters, which will be 30,000 square feet.” The center will “feature six fields, three with grass and three with artificial turf” (AJC.com, 9/26).

RECIPE FOR SUCCESS: In Chicago, David Just noted Wrigley Field’s new and improved clubhouse and facilities are “deserving of some credit” for the Cubs’ success this season. Manager Joe Maddon said, “It has had an impact. It’s comfortable, but not comfortable to the point where it lets you sag into an easy chair and you don’t want to go outside. … Everything you could possibly ask for to be successful is here” (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 9/25).
