NHL Franchise Notes: Flyers See Increase In Season-Ticket Sales After Playoff Appearance

In Philadelphia, Sam Carchidi notes the Flyers, "bolstered by a strong finish that produced a playoff spot last spring," have sold "nearly 18,000 season tickets per game, an increase of about 1,700 for each game." Flyers COO Shawn Tilger said, "Our renewal rate was 95 percent, which was among the highest in the league, and we are second in the league in new season-ticket sales." Tilger said that the increase can also be "attributed to the fans' interest in attending many of the pregame events planned to celebrate the franchise's 50th anniversary" (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 9/27).

NEW KID IN TOWN
: In Nashville, Adam Vingan notes Predators D P.K. Subban has yet to play for the team, but his No. 76 jerseys and shirts "dotted the crowd" at a team scrimmage Sunday. The excitement surrounding his trade to the team "continues to mount," and the Predators "never have had a player who attracts such buzz." Subban already has become a "face of the franchise," as sales of his jersey grew by nearly 75% "in the two months following the June 29 trade" from the Canadiens compared to two previous months (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 9/27).

REPORT CARD: In Boston, Stephen Harris notes Bruins GM Don Sweeney has now been at his position for 16 months, and it is "simply too soon to determine what sort of grade" he deserves "for his front-office moves." However, he has been in need of a "front-office victory" -- and he got one yesterday with the announcement that LW Brad Marchand signed a contract extension that should keep him on the team through '24-25. The eight-year deal is worth $49M (BOSTON HERALD, 9/27).
