Yormark Won't Discuss Possible Isles Move, Instead Focusing On Coming Year At Barclays

Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment CEO Brett Yormark yesterday "declined to discuss the possibility of the Islanders leaving the arena in Brooklyn after next season," instead wanting to focus on the improvements Barclays Center has made to "make Isles fans feel more at home in the team’s second season there," according to Arthur Staple of NEWSDAY. Yormark said, "I don’t have a crystal ball, I can’t tell you what the future holds. I can tell you adamantly that we’re committed to providing a great season for everyone involved, for all the key stakeholders.” Staple notes reports surfaced in July that the team's new co-owners Jon Ledecky and Scott Malkin were "searching for a new home for the Islanders after only one season at Barclays Center." Belmont Park and the Citi Field area "were cited as possibilities." Yormark yesterday did say that the Islanders have "seen an uptick in season-ticket sales, primarily from within the five boroughs" (NEWSDAY, 9/27). Yormark said that fans can "expect to see more Islanders branding and signage around the arena, 'so they can feel this is their home.'" He also said that there will be "more equal availability of Islanders and Nets merchandising at the arena's retail stores." The AP's Vin Cherwoo notes with fans' desire for "more weekend games, Yormark noted there were 18 games scheduled on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays this season, an increase from last year" (AP, 9/27).
