Architecture Firm Hired To Study Future Of Triple-A PawSox' Ballpark, Surrounding Land

Members of the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox, the City of Pawtucket and the State of Rhode Island have hired architectural firm Pendulum Studio to "study the fate of McCoy Stadium and surrounding land," according to a front-page piece by Kate Bramson of the PROVIDENCE JOURNAL. The team, city and state are "back at the drawing board together, after the team failed" in '15 to "convince state leaders, fans and Providence officials that the team needed" a new ballpark. PawSox Chair Larry Lucchino yesterday insisted that it is "premature to say whether it's feasible for the team to stay at McCoy beyond the terms of its lease," through '20. Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien said it is "unlikely the parties would pay for such a study if they didn't hope they'd discover viable options for the PawSox to stay put." The three groups will "equally share the $105,000 cost of the study, plus expenses that include travel costs" for the firm. Pendulum will also "examine options for developing land around McCoy, which covers 6 acres." Other than Pendulum, Generator Studio, Populous and Leshinsky "submitted bids to study McCoy" (PROVIDENCE JOURNAL, 9/27).
