'16 Puerto Rico Tip-Off Moving To ESPN Complex In Orlando Over Zika Virus Conerns

The '16 Tire Pros Puerto Rico Tip-Off men's college basketball tournament is moving to Orlando due to fears about the Zika virus on the island. The tourney will now be held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort instead of the Coliseo Roberto Clemente in San Juan. The event takes place the weekend prior to Thanksgiving (ESPN). CBSSPORTS.com's Matt Norlander noted coaches at "multiple schools expressed concern with playing the event in Puerto Rico." Sources said that some school staffers -- "especially younger men looking to have children -- were prepared to not travel to the event if it was to be held in Puerto Rico." There was also the concern that Zika's "prominence in Puerto Rico would lead to fan bases opting not to travel to the event." Orlando will now be "host to two major college basketball tournaments in November." The Advocare Invitational will "also be held in the same venue, only a week later, beginning on Nov. 24" (CBSSPORTS.com, 9/26).
