Baylor Football Breaks School Record For Tickets Sold Despite Offseason Scandal

The Baylor football program has sold a "school-record 28,804 public season tickets" for the upcoming season, despite the offseason scandal that saw the resignation of the coach, as well as Baylor's AD and school president, according to Phillip Ericksen of the WACO TRIBUNE-HERALD. The deadline to "renew season tickets had passed before May 26, the day the Baylor Board of Regents released a report on the school’s and athletics department’s failures to handle sexual assault reports." Baylor Exec Associate AD/External Affairs Nick Joos noted the program last season "sold 28,384 season tickets, up from 26,687 season tickets for McLane Stadium's inaugural season" in '14. Joos: "After the events of late May ... there were 75 to 100 accounts that canceled at that point in time. We said, 'We understand that and the emotion of that at that time. We'll call you back in about a week and see if that's really how you feel.' We did that and we whittled that number down to 25 or so accounts" (WACO TRIBUNE-HERALD, 8/28). Meanwhile, Baylor has "installed walk-through metal detectors at all entrances to McLane Stadium in an ongoing effort to provide a safe environment for fans" (WACO TRIBUNE-HERALD, 8/31).
